An investigation on the conditions for creating ways of seeing and making visible Latin American archives that feature women and braided hair. The process was impacted by the scarce or non-existent results found when searching for the term “braids” in the databases of institutions such as the National Library of Peru; Cleveland Museum of Art; Lima Art Museum Collection; Library of Congress; Los Angeles County Museum of Art; and Fototeca Nacional — INAH Mexico.

Based on the absence of the term in their cataloging systems, I propose a critique of the methods used to archive images and the established ways of seeing perpetuated by this logic. Here, I execute graphic interventions and propose amplifying the dimensions of these images, offering the public and the archives themselves alternative ways to teach, speak, and act. An artistic gesture that calls for re-examining and re-organizing.
